Compatible replacement remote supplied and programmed on-site for an obsolete roller shutter garage door system in Wallsend, saving the customer from an unnecessary control system upgrade.

Most people assume that when a security system becomes obsolete, the only option is replacement. However, that is not always the case.

Recently, we attended a property in Wallsend where the customer required an additional remote for their roller shutter garage door. The original system had become obsolete and replacement remotes were no longer available. Historically, this would often have meant replacing the receiver and upgrading the control system at a cost of around £235.

After inspecting the installation, it became clear that there was nothing wrong with the equipment itself. The garage door was in excellent condition, the motor operated perfectly and the receiver was functioning exactly as intended. The only problem was obtaining a working remote.

Using technology and solutions we have spent months researching and testing, we were able to generate a compatible remote on-site. The customer received a fully working remote for £65, avoiding an unnecessary system upgrade and saving approximately £170.

This job highlights a growing trend within the security industry. Obsolete does not necessarily mean broken. In many cases, equipment can be repaired, adapted or upgraded without the need for complete replacement.

At Locksmith Kev, our approach is simple: repair where possible, adapt where practical and replace when necessary. This helps customers avoid unnecessary costs while still receiving safe, reliable and effective security solutions.

The security industry has changed significantly over recent years. Traditional locksmithing skills remain important, but modern security increasingly involves garage door automation, roller shutter controls, access control systems, smart locks, vehicle immobilisers, transponder technology and digital diagnostics. The common theme is no longer simply locking a door. It is controlling access securely and efficiently.

This is why we continue to invest heavily in research, training and modern diagnostic equipment. The goal is not to sell the most expensive solution. The goal is to find the right solution.

In the Wallsend example, the customer did not need a new control system. They needed somebody who understood the technology well enough to keep a perfectly good system operating.

Whether it is a garage door remote, a roller shutter control system, a vehicle key or a door lock, we believe customers should always understand their options before committing to replacement.
